Chinchilla diet, food, and hay

The right chinchilla diet is boring on purpose: unlimited grass hay as the main course, a measured scoop of plain pellets as the supplement, fresh water, and very little else. That boring menu is what keeps the ever-growing teeth worn down and the sensitive gut moving.

Most diet trouble comes from generosity: sugary treats, fruit, and sudden food changes upset a digestive system built for coarse, dry roughage. These guides cover what belongs in the hay rack, what belongs in the treat jar rarely, and what should never be offered at all.
